Organic Next Gen Coffee, 5lb whole bean

The future of coffee is changing and young people in Guatemala are facing a migration crisis due to the lack of access to land, credit, training, and education. To combat these challenges, Equal Exchange, through the Cooperative Development Program, has joined with coffee co-op Manos Campesinas to develop opportunities encouraging young people to stay in Guatemala through programs offering a sense of inclusion, ownership, and a voice in the co-op. Since 2018, 27-year-old Marina Elizabeth De León Tzunún has been a part of this program gaining experience through training and education, and is now an active co-op member with her own plot of land to farm coffee and raise chickens for the sale of eggs and meat on a larger scale. Marina Elizabeth’s story of inclusion is one example of how programmatic change is vital for the survival of coffee farming co-ops and is reflected in this seasonal offering of Organic Next Gen.
