Improving the tea industry in Assam

Assam became the epicenter of the colonial tea plantation system in the 1800s. Today, Assam's tea plantations are still fraught with labor injustices and many plantation laborers live and work in terrible conditions. Our longtime partners at Tea Promoters of India (TPI) have been dedicated to reforming the tea industry in several regions including Assam. In a relatively short time, TPI has helped the large Banaspaty tea garden become the first organic certified and “Elephant Friendly” tea garden in all of Assam. TPI has also facilitated the start of the Karbi Anglong Small Farmer tea project in the surrounding community. Bogamati was the first small farmer to be part of this new small farmer organization. We’re proud to support their ongoing work to improve the industry in Assam.

What do our roast names mean?

At our solar-powered roastery in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, our worker-owner team batch roasts and conducts production cuppings daily to bring out the best characteristics in each harvest. With four primary roast levels, we think there’s a favorite here for everyone.

Medium Roast: expect the unique citrus, nutty, fruity, or floral notes of each coffee to shine through.

Full City Roast: you’ll get a bit more of the caramel flavor that comes from the roasting process.

Vienna Roast: starts to bring the smoky aroma and smooth and rich body of a darker roast.

French Roast: with the natural oils fully expressed, it’s an intensely dark and smoky experience akin to dark chocolate.
