Buying Clubs and Community Food Distribution: A Model for an Independent Food System
Just a few retailers own most of the stores where we shop. They control what is put on the shelf, prices, supply chains, and distribution channels. Buying Clubs are a way for consumers to take control of the products they buy and get their food directly from independent food makers. Buying Clubs foster community, empower people to make informed food buying choices, and buying in bulk with friends and neighbors can save you money! Come to this session to learn about the history of Buying Clubs, many of which lay the foundation for today's food coop landscape. Learn why this is important to Equal Exchange, and how you can start one.

Spice Up Your Life!
Join Equal Exchange and Ethan Frisch, cofounder of Burlap and Barrel for a virtual event as part of our larger vendor event series that celebrates our unique partners and why we have chosen to work with them. Burlap and Barrel’s mission is to help end inequality and exploitation in food systems by connecting small-scale spice farmers to the market, helping them generate a larger share of the product’s value, and educating consumers about the impact of product traceability on human rights. Most of the time we have no idea where our spices come from, who grew them, or how they get to us. If you want to change that, attend this session and hear it first-hand!
