Why aren't chocolate and cocoa products included in the sale?
There has been an unprecedented surge in cocoa prices this year. The global cocoa market started off 2023 at about $2,500 per metric ton and has continued to soar in recent weeks to well over $10,000. The Fair Trade Organic minimum is $2,940, and when the market is above this minimum, Equal Exchange’s farmer partners always receive at least an additional $540 premium above the market.
Due to the high cost of cocoa, we've decided to exclude chocolate and cocoa products from this year's Anniversary Sale. We've also decided not to raise prices during the sale but will do so in the coming weeks.
