Indigenous roots

Colombia is known worldwide for its Arabica coffee, but only a small percentage of growers use organic methods. In a market where not much state support exists for organic farming, Equal Exchange is proud to offer technical assistance and training to farmers at ASPROCAFE INGRUMA and pay a premium price for their high quality organic beans. ASPROCAFE is one of our oldest partners going back to the mid nineties, with the majority of the co-op’s 3300 members being Embara Chambi indigenous people who live on four reserves on the outskirts of Riosucio. Women and youth have a high level of participation in the co-op, and women hold strong positions of leadership in the office.

What do our roast names mean?

At our solar-powered roastery in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, our worker-owner team batch roasts and conducts production cuppings daily to bring out the best characteristics in each harvest. With four primary roast levels, we think there’s a favorite here for everyone.

Medium Roast: expect the unique citrus, nutty, fruity, or floral notes of each coffee to shine through.

Full City Roast: you’ll get a bit more of the caramel flavor that comes from the roasting process.

Vienna Roast: starts to bring the smoky aroma and smooth and rich body of a darker roast.

French Roast: with the natural oils fully expressed, it’s an intensely dark and smoky experience akin to dark chocolate.
