Sun dried sweetness

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and this roast from the southern state of Sidamo lives up to Ethiopian coffee's well-deserved reputation for excellence. This is what’s called a “natural processed” coffee — that means the beans are sun dried with the fruit still on them, imparting a dense sweetness and complexity that comes through even after the fruit is later removed and the beans are roasted.

Our worker-owned, solar-generating roastery

At our Massachusetts HQ, our team batch-roasts coffee daily under a 1,418 panel solar array, bringing out the best flavors of each harvest. At the lighter end of the roast spectrum, we accentuate the unique fruity and floral notes within the beans. As the roast length increases, the natural sugars in the coffee beans caramelize and darken to elicit a richer body. Our darkest roasts fully express the beans’ natural oils, yielding subtle smokiness and flavors akin to dark chocolate. At every level, our expert team creates a smooth, clean, and balanced cup with reliable consistency from batch to batch.

Our new favorite roast

"We have yet to try an Equal Exchange coffee that we didn’t like, but this one for sure takes the cake. It has a delightful blueberry nose with a well balanced medium body. We’ve tried it as cold brew, drip and pour over and think we liked drip the best, but still enjoyable anyway we’ve tried it."
