Grown by small farmer co-ops

This chocolate bar is made from organic cacao from Togo, Dominican Republic and Peru, and organic sugar from Paraguay and Costa Rica, all grown by small farmer co-ops. When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities. Since 2018, we’ve partnered with SCOOPS IKPA, in Badou, Togo. “IKPA” means “strength” in the Akposso language, a fitting name for this co-operative, which has a solid forward-looking mission. Their vision for 2030 is to grow crops organically in the region in order to benefit the health of the whole community.

At our Massachusetts HQ, our team batch-roasts coffee daily under a 1,418 panel solar array, bringing out the best flavors of each harvest. At the lighter end of the roast spectrum, we accentuate the unique fruity and floral notes within the beans. As the roast length increases, the natural sugars in the coffee beans caramelize and darken to elicit a richer body. Our darkest roasts fully express the beans’ natural oils, yielding subtle smokiness and flavors akin to dark chocolate. At every level, our expert team creates a smooth, clean, and balanced cup with reliable consistency from batch to batch.

"I love, love, love Equal Exchange chocolate products! I know they are grown organically and are fair trade. They are more expensive for a reason. The price for cheap products is paid - just not by you. Somewhere, someone is suffering for the low price with poor working conditions, low pay, indentured servitude or outright slavery. Q&A

On the label of your Organic Milk Chocolate Bar it says "without hazelnuts" yet your list of ingredients in the online description states "May contain peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds and coconut:" Which is it? I need to know what to tell my customers with peanut allergies if it is safe to consume this product.
There are no hazelnuts added to the bars, but the equipment used to manufacture the bars may have come into contact with these various ingredients, so from an allergy statement standpoint, we can not guarantee they are free of these ingredients.
