The women entrepreneurs of Café Metik

Chiapas, Mexico, has long been heralded for its biodiverse beauty and delicious coffee, but violence, migration, coffee prices, and food insecurity have had lasting effects on coffee farmers there. Enter Café Metik. A small group of women farmers from the co-op Comon Yaj Noptic has been working for the past decade to bring their vision of specialty coffee to their local market. By forming their own co-op, the women of Café Metik (or “Big Woman”) have learned new skills, diversified their income, and are able to showcase their coffee’s quality locally. These are the farmers behind Organic Cloubreak, the newest inspiring single-origin in our Women in Coffee series.

At our Massachusetts HQ, our team batch-roasts coffee daily under a 1,418 panel solar array, bringing out the best flavors of each harvest. At the lighter end of the roast spectrum, we accentuate the unique fruity and floral notes within the beans. As the roast length increases, the natural sugars in the coffee beans caramelize and darken to elicit a richer body. Our darkest roasts fully express the beans’ natural oils, yielding subtle smokiness and flavors akin to dark chocolate. At every level, our expert team creates a smooth, clean, and balanced cup with reliable consistency from batch to batch.
