Four of our coffee team in front of the roasting machine

Our worker-owned, solar-generating roastery

At our Massachusetts HQ, our team batch-roasts coffee daily under a 1,418 panel solar array, bringing out the best flavors of each harvest. At the lighter end of the roast spectrum, we accentuate the unique fruity and floral notes within the beans. As the roast length increases, the natural sugars in the coffee beans caramelize and darken to elicit a richer body. Our darkest roasts fully express the beans’ natural oils, yielding subtle smokiness and flavors akin to dark chocolate. At every level, our expert team creates a smooth, clean, and balanced cup with reliable consistency from batch to batch.

Chocolate is food

"Such a great experience. Really well orchestrated and run. The flavor wheel (major & minor) would have been good to see full page (small on the inset) maybe printed on the back of the tasting notes? The history, the culture and the origins side of chocolate was also fascinating. Would love to see a similar one with coffee and include 2 mugs and a pour-over set with instructions and a whole seminar."

Appreciate the education

"Really appreciate that Equal Exchange did this and it was a great first class to which I hope there are more! To me, it seemed like there was a lot of information shared, that could be a little overwhelming and caused me to tune out a bit. Being consumers, I’d enjoy more if it was more tasting focused with just bullet point information as an “introduction” and plan more classes (please!?) to go a little deeper than bullet points. Pairings would be appreciated…. simple ones and more complex."

"Informative-Engaging-Tasty a MUST do for anyone who loves chocolate! Excellent information regarding the process of chocolate from start to finish. Would have been fun at the end to have the offer of a specially curated chocolate box available for purchase via quick link in the comments. Thank you!"

Educational and tasty!

"The seminar was very informative, and (no surprise) the chocolates were very individual and very flavorful. Thanks for a great tour!"

Fun and Informative.

"I purchased this seminar for my husband for his birthday not knowing if he would appreciate it or not. I was very happy that he really enjoyed it and enjoyed eating all the delicious chocolate bars! We learned a lot about the Equal Exchange company and the way the cacao is grown, harvested, and processed. We love Equal Exchange products. Wish we could purchase smaller quantities on the website."
